They give 5.5% on the current account balance upto the first 2,500
You need to credit the account with over £1,000 per month

Service is okay

I'm in the middle of transfering my current account over to them and they are very slow with setting up the Direct Debits !

Its 4 weeks on and theyve still not set them up properly and I have DD's due !

So if your changing banks, do the DD setups yourself don't leave it to A&L

Most banks are slow in transferrign and setting up so its always a good idea to do it yourself

A & L

Postby experinece on Wed Feb 15, 2006 12:59 pm

I've been with A & L for a year. They have great interest rate and on-line banking is fine, but yes they made a dogs dinner of the switch and DDs - I complained hard and got £50 compensation.
Their telephone support is mixed (fine for everyday enquiries, poor for anything unusual) and slow to get through. Do NOT use their phone line, call their free credit card line and select option 2 for banking (0800 0688638)

I have had problems to with A&L for the past 3 months, all of the direct debits just plain refuse to to show up on their internet banking service.

Ive got to send them a letter of complaint, I deeply regret now switching to A&L ! :x

I'm having to send about my fifth letter of serious complaint in six years. And I'm not one of those vexatious litigant types, I just like a quiet life!
We've had innumerable problems just trying to move money between accounts on line; either the current account to Plus Saver won't work, or vice versa.
When you phone up, they always tell you it's a different problem, which they promise they will fix. This has included setting us up with new PINS and log on numbers (made no difference) and recently telling us the accounts weren't linked. They would fix it. They haven't.
They never do anything they promise (we had a big problem when we paid by card for a new car). It's only when you get ugly that anything happens. We have a growing file of letters of apology and even some compensation.
But I don't want apologies or money from them, I just want to be able to move money between two accounts whenever I want without a load of hassle and having to stick on the end of a phone for hours.
What IS the matter with their computer system?
Anyone else had this hassle?

My experience with them says that their interest rates don't stay at same level. They drop drastically at any point. Also when you sign up for a deal with them, read the documentation which we generally avoid. They tend to take our approval on changing interest rates as per business performance.
